Global Drone Film Festival (GDFF) is dedicated to educating audiences and empowering filmmakers and photographers around the globe to tell their stories through their lens by exploring Land, Air, and Sea and even under water.

About The Global Drone Film Festival

The inaugural Global Drone Film Festival (GDFF) is hosted by Kids Drone Zone (KDZ) a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Kids Drone Zone mission is to serve as a global educational resource for youth and adults to learn about all aspects of Drones/Unmanned Autonomous Vehicle (UAV) and Unmanned Vehicle Systems (UVS) and how this technology are used to better society in many beneficial ways.

Festival Timeline

  • December 31st – Early Bird Ends

  • March 4th– Regular submissions

  • April 7th – Late Deadline

  • April 14th – Notifications

  • May 6th  – Awards Ceremony

GDFF is accepting short films and stills for considerations now. Festival participation is open to anyone in the world with special divisions for youth and women. With low entry fees and enthusiastic esteemed judges, this is the one Festival where you can Let Your Inner Light Shine. Winning selections will be awarded prizes. Selected submissions will be screened in Atlanta Georgia and online. 

There are separate divisions for Youth, Schools,  and Adults! Early submissions end December 31st, Regular Deadline March 3, 2017 and late submissions end April 9, 2017. The celebration of finalists and winners will happen, May 6, 2017, in Georgia.

Film Festival Divisions

Adults:

This division is open to any adult 18 and up from around the globe. You can be a commercial operator, first responder, FPV Racer , extreme sports,  hobbyist, and enthusiast, amateur filmmakers/photographer.

  • Your film does not need to exclusively contain aerial footage. In this division, a Drone or Unmanned Autonomous Vehicle (UAV) must be used for at least 50% of the film and 100% for photo submissions. There is no hard and fast rule about how much aerial footage must be in your film, but your footage should be central to the story you’re telling. Applicants may enter as often as they like. Please read and adhere to all guidelines.
  • Film must be 3 minutes or less. Any submissions over 3 minutes will be automatically disqualified.

A panel of esteemed jurors from around the globe will critically assess submissions across the following categories:

Cinematic Narrative, Epic Landscape/Nature, Drones Are Good, FPV/Aerial Sports, Drone Selfies (no more than 1 minute), .

Awards: Best in each category, Best of Show, and People’s Choice Awards will also be chosen in this division.

This divisions is dedicated to women around the world who use Drones or Unmanned Autonomous Vehicle (UAV) for film and photography.

  • This division is open to any women 18 and up. (See youth division for students) You can be a commercial operator, first responder, FPV Racer, hobbyist, and enthusiast, amateur filmmakers/photographer.
  • Your film does not need to exclusively contain aerial footage. Photos must be an aerial view.
  • In this division, a Drone or Unmanned Autonomous Vehicle (UAV) must be used for at least 50% of the film and 100% for photo submissions. There is no hard and fast rule about how much aerial footage must be in your film, but your footage should be central to the story you’re telling. Except youth submissions, Films/Photos completely unrelated to aerial photos/film or do not contain relevant aerial footage, will be disqualified. This does not include submissions under the youth division. Applicants may enter as often as they like. Please read and adhere to all guidelines.
  • Films must be 3 minutes or less. Any submissions over 3 minutes will be automatically disqualified.

A panel of esteemed jurors from around the globe will critically assess submissions across the following categories:

Cinematic Narrative Epic Landscape/Nature, Drones Are Good, FPV/Aerial Sports, WHT/EPIC (What the Hell? (LOL)), Messin Around- Drone Selfies (no more than 1 minute).

Awards: Best in each category, Best of Show, People’s Choice Awards will all be chosen in this division.

This division is for City’s, Towns, or Communities around the globe. Show the world why they should see your hidden Gem.

  • In this division, a Drone or Unmanned Autonomous Vehicle (UAV) must be used for at least 50% of the film and 100% for photo submissions. Films must be 3 minutes or less.
  • We will award prizes to the top three (3) submissions and People’s Choice Awards will also be chosen in this division. Please read all guidelines.
This division is dedicated to individuals/organizations who use Unmanned Vehicle Systems (UVS) to submit film/photos from the following Non-Aerial systems. Submissions should reflect how this technology is used to benefit society.

UVS includes the following systems:

  • Unmanned Ground Systems (UGS) -Operates on all types of Terrain
  • Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV)- Floating Systems that operate on water
  • Unmanned Under Water Vehicle (UUWV)- operate below shallow and deep water

We will award prizes to the top three (3) submissions in film and photo and People’s Choice Awards will also be chosen in this division. Please read all guidelines.

If you do not have a drone this year, no problem. We still want to see your artistic side.

  • Films must be 3 minutes or less. Any submissions over 3 minutes will be automatically disqualified.
  • In this category a non-drone/UAV can only be used. We understand many youth do not have drones YET!
  • Submit entries into the traditional category and next year be inspired to use a Drone!
  • Accepting submissions from around the globe ages 9-22.
  • Must be a Student in a public, private, or home school organization from elementary to college can only submit in the Youth program.
  • Scholars must provide their educational institution contact info when uploading their film/photo submission.
  • Scholars may enter as often as they like. Please read all guidelines.

A panel of esteemed jurors from around the globe will critically assess submissions across these following categories:

Messin Around-Selfies (Still Only), Me and My Peeps- – friends/family oriented, Dancing Feet- Dance Video, Public Service Announcement (PSA))/Social action 30 seconds.

Awards: Best in each category, Best of Show, and People’s Choice Awards will also be chosen in this division.

KDZ designed this division to encourage youth to explore the world of drones.

  • Adult supervision is a must when operating a drone.
  • Films must be 3 minutes or less. Any submissions over 3 minutes will be automatically disqualified.
  • Accepting submissions from around the globe ages 9-22.
  • Must be a Student in a public, private, or home school organization from elementary to college can only submit in the Youth program.
  • Scholars must provide their educational institution contact info when uploading their film/photo submission.
  • Scholars may enter as often as they like. Please read all guidelines.

A panel of esteemed jurors from around the globe will critically assess submissions across these following categories:

Messin Around-Drone Selfies (no more than 1 minute), Me and My Peeps- friends/family oriented, LOL, Ooooops I crashed, Mother Nature may include animals, Dancing Feet- Dance Video, Public Service Announcement (PSA)/Social action 30 seconds.

Awards: Best in each category, Best of Show, and People’s Choice Awards will also be chosen in this division.

KDZ is a steadfast Partner in Education (PIE). We encourage schools to submit multiple entries (photos/films) from around the globe.

  • We will award prizes to the top three (3) school submissions and People’s Choice Awards will also be chosen in this division. Hint: Don’t forget to call out your schools rival.
  • You may choose your music.
  • Films must be works directed and/or produced by Elementary, Middle, High school or college.
  • Adult supervision must be limited to an advisory capacity only.
  • Films must be 3 minutes or less. Please read all guidelines.
